BERRIEN COUNTY, MI – A new drone will help police find missing people and collect evidence in Berrien County.
Donations allowed the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office to buy a new drone equipped with a thermal camera, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Police bought an Autel EVO II Dual unmanned drone. It has a high-resolution thermal camera which can collect two image sets at once, police said. It will capture both thermal and visible images.
LeValley Chevrolet-Buick-GMC, Lane Automotive and Orchard Hill Sanitary Landfill donated to support the purchase, police said.
The new drone is the second drone the sheriff’s office has acquired. So far, police have used the technology to arrest seven people, collect evidence at crashes and crime scenes and find missing people.
“We are extremely fortunate to have generous businesses that are willing to partner with our agency to help us acquire tools like this,” Sheriff Paul Bailey said.
